One way to restore networking, especially wireless, is to go into control panel, system and delete the network card. Since you mentioned that this notebook had previously been setup for multiple wireless profiles, my suggestion would be to delete all existing wireless profiles and see if that allows you to then create a new profile for the Comcast gateway.
I can't provide a screen shot to illustrate how to do that because I don't know if you are using the built-in Windows Wireless Zero Config, or a vendor specific utility for your unnamed Wi Fi card.
I never really mess with those, I left them at the default settings but will check.
Im not sure that is the Advanced tab you are talking about.
As you can tell I dont know much about networking : PDuring time that I had DI-624 router.
Under my Local Area Connection Properties and on the Authentication tab Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network was checked.
My laptop the Authentication tab wasnt even there for me to mess with.Although I could do anything on the Internet and what not while my connection notification icon is waiting to be validated (it never did), it just annoying looking at a little dot going back and forth LOL.
